Arenas let players face off in squads in a more standard shooter style of gameplay, looking closer to Overwatch than the Battle Royale’s normal mechanics.
The reaction has been a bit mixed to the ideas. Some players think it’s silly to remove a perfectly good game mode that has a userbase that enjoys it. If it’s not broke, why fix it?

If Apex Legends Arenas mode is removed, they’ll be a space for more team based limited time modes. If developers get creative with this absence, we could get something more interesting than just Arenas that could potentially appeal to a larger portion of the player base.
The main sticking point with Arenas often seems like the matchmaking. Unlike the normal Ranked mode system, players in Arenas have trouble finding games with players that are at their skill level. These complaints could be fixed by adjusting how the game works though, fixing up Arenas rather than removing it outright.

The new changes look set to spice things up after a bit of a lacklustre season. The Apex Legends Arenas mode isn’t as vital to the game as the main Battle Royale. There isn’t an equivalent of the ALGS for it. It’s definitely got its fan though, and would be missed.
