A loss at the hands of Fnatic to start the 2022 League of Legends World Championship and an extremely close win over the Brazilian representative LOUD had the LCS community criticizing their third seed, Evil Geniuses. Taiwanese 2nd seed Beyond Gaming came to challenge the stumbly Evil Geniuses, however they were not expecting what happened.
Jojopyun on Sylas beside his team absolutely redeemed themselves from the first two showings at the event.
In three total games, Evil Geniuses have played 14 different picks out of a possible 15, with jojopyun playing the only repeat champion Sylas. The team’s bottom lane which was heavily criticized since it was announced that Danny would be taking a break from the event in order to better his mental health.
It was a very different showcase for Evil Geniuses, as Kaori showed his true potential with lane pressuring technically focused laners. In this match versus Beyond, the Turkish native bot laner understood his role on Aphelios: farm up and scale until his 2 item power spike was online. A terrible Caitlyn/Lux game against Fnatic made Evil Geniuses switch to an aggressive Kalista plus Taric lane against LOUD. On the other side of the map, Impact and Inspired have looked much better as well, pulling out Aatrox, Kennen, Maokai, and Lee Sin, with other champions as well.

All of these changes in game style, and on top of that, the fact that Evil Geniuses have been able to adapt against 2 different teams after a heavy loss, will give NA LCS fans hope heading into the rest of the playin group stage and afterwards.
Evil Geniuses’ second win of Worlds could be highlighted in 2 situations. An aggressive early game which showed 12 kills shared between the two teams and a 4 000 gold lead for Evil Geniuses. With jojopyun doing some heavy carrying on Sylas and a well executed level 3 dive on the top side, Evil Geniuses were able to establish themselves relatively early in the game.
By the 15 minute point, jojopyun had achieved six kills and died only 2 times, leaving the scoreline at 8-4 in favor of the North American representative. A little bit later, Inspired stole a Cloud Drake with a clutch last second smite. Afterwards, Beyond Gaming’s jungler Husha got picked on Vi, giving Kaori his first kill of the match. Two minutes later, Kaori was online with Aphelios finishing the game after a good teamfight.
After a slow start, Evil Geniuses are now 2-1 at Worlds 2022 and head into a battle against Oceanian representatives Chiefs Esports Club on Saturday, October 1st with expected pauses as we are used to by now. But the small differences of the playin stage mean Evil Geniuses can’t be overconfident against the win-less Chiefs. Despite their 0-2 start, Chiefs have definitely shown their ability to maneuver strange picks and even almost pull off an upset.
