A VALORANT season full of surprises awaits us in 2023 with the arrival of VALORANT Champions Tour franchises around the world. The emergence of partner teams, the merging of regions where there are already great teams in one league, as well as the growing importance of local leagues, exponentially increase the uncertainty for the upcoming season.
The fact that only 30 teams can participate in the three major leagues has begun to reveal stronger and more stacked teams than before. One of the biggest examples of this is Sentinels, one of the top teams in North America. Unlike other organizations, the team in red and black quickly announced its roster for the VALORANT 2023 season.
Sentinels is one of the few teams that has seen the highest and the lowest during its run on the VALORANT stage. In the early stages of the game, they managed to seize almost every trophy, and the gap between them and their rivals was quite wide. This included VALORANT’s first international LAN tournament, the VCT 2022 Stage 2 Masters Reykjavík.
However, their dominance lasted one year, and began to fade in 2021. In 2022, SEN failed to achieve results in most tournaments. Both the team as a whole and individual players in the squad regressed. This was followed by an even worse 2022 season. Although the squad was shuffled a couple of times, the once king of the squad could not return to his former glory.
TenZ is the only remnant of the old days on the Sentinels roster for 2023. With his social media and in-game skills, the Canadian will continue to contribute to the team. Leading the way in the game is Dephh, a 30-year veteran of XSET. The UK native has played an important role in XSET‘s rise, providing good leadership to the younger players around him.
The third player on the list is also from XSET. Zekken, 17, caught everyone’s attention with his excellent performance last season. With a mature style of play for his age, he played the flex-dps role well. To round out the rest of the roster, Sentinels made an unexpected and rather bold choice.
The team completed its roster with the signing of Sacy and pANcada, from VALORANT Champions 2022 champion LOUD Brazil, as the fourth and fifth players on the team. SicK, who has been with Sentinels since its inception, will take on the role of the team’s 6th player. These signings came after several teams were snubbed from participating in the VCT in 2023.
Sentinels had some great talent on their previous rosters. However, on paper and in terms of the players’ natural roles, this is the first properly planned roster to come out of Sentinels.
Dephh has been competing in the FPS arena for a long time and has the necessary experience in the game. pANcada and Sacy are among the best players in the world and fit the Controller and Initiator roles perfectly. Zekken and TenZ appear to be the two DPS players on the team.
Zekken’s ability to take on other roles when needed will be a great advantage for the Sentinels. Also, for the first time, the team will have the opportunity to work with a specific team of trainers for a long time. They will no longer be left behind in this area.
On raw stats and performance alone, this roster is on par with the raw talent roster Sentinels usually draws from. The added bonus this time around is that the players are considered veterans in Valorant’s competitive arena.
