League of Legends 2022 World Championship – Group B spotlight Part 1

With the playin stage now officially over, the League of Legends World Championship is set to start with the exciting main event group stage, where a total of 16 teams from all around the world will battle in four different groups and hopefully advance into the playoffs stage.

With respect and a huge prize pool on the line, Group B is one if not the most stacked team this year. In this 2 part series we will break down the incredible teams in Group B, lets go ahead and start with Part 1!

DWG KIA

DK has been the most successful Korean team in the “modern” League of Legends era (around 2 to 3 years). Knowing that, the Korean representative captained by ShowMaker and Canyon did have an underwhelming 2022 compared to previous achievements. The bot lane roster switch and the return of top lane prodigy Nuguri to the squad, netted only a third place finish in the LCK.

Nevertheless, DK definitely shows up when needed, especially in League of Legends’ biggest stage. With the shift in meta going back to a more team fight/mid jungle priority duo, DK will fill right at home playing with both of their superstars in front.

The meta also seems to provide an avenue for top lakers to carry, which fits well with how DK likes to play. Seo “deokdam” Dae-gil and Kim “Kellin” Hyeong-gyu are not the hard carry duo type of players however they are incredible utility players that can provide setup for their top side trio.

DK has a strong chance of advancing to the playoff stage, even with the strong competition in their group. It might be tough to advance as the first place seed, but second place in Group B should still be an achievement. As the finalists of the last two Worlds events, DK is looking to keep that momentum going this time around.

G2 Esports

After being extremely confident in the LEC Summer Split playoffs, G2 were quickly brought down a notch after a 3-0 defeat against Rogue in the finals. It was tough for G2 fans to watch that series, as they were not even close to winning a game.

Despite that unexpected performance, G2 can still rely on great individual prowess as they have done so in the past. Support main Raphaël “Targamas” Crabbé has improved quite a lot this last split, mainly focusing on expanding his champion pool into Worlds. Jankos and BrokenBlade might be the stone in their shoe, however experience never goes away and both of them have plenty of it.

G2’s chances at a possible top eight finish at Worlds will primarily depend on how they reach into the current meta. Caps will definitely be the key player for G2’s playoffs chances and the rest of the team is expected to heavily play around him. If the team is at its best in terms of preparation and drafting, then G2 is more than capable of a top 2 finish in Group B.
