EG shows promise, until DWG KIA shots Western hopes down – LoL World Championship

The dream of a miracle run was at some point alive for NA LCS fans. After a dominant showing against G2 Esports, Evil Geniuses showed promise starting Week 2 of the League of Legends World Championship. Similar to other North American representatives, EG grabbed 0 wins during the first week of the group stage with tough defeats against G2, JD Gaming, and DWG KIA. However there was a little voice inside NA fans’ minds, as during those Week 1 games EG were able to match the early game against these juggernauts squads.

Throughout the gmatch, Evil Geniuses simply out rotated G2 Esports through most neutral objective fights, thanks to their unexpected Shen top pick. It helped Impact to join a teamfight almost immediately when it started, while also giving pressure around the map without requiring to always have Teleport available. On top of better map movement, Inspired’s Hecarim was an incredible way to utilize Shen’s ultimate in the earlier stages of the game, and EG’s jungler definitely made use of it.

Kaori and Vulcan also showed up thanks to their Lucian pick, which finished with 9 kills and 3 assists by the end of the match. Lucian has been one of Kaori’s top champions so far on the event, having a 100% win rate over the 2 games he’s had in the LCS, according to statistics website gol.gg. This was also the first time that Inspired has defeated Jankos in a head to head matchup, after a total of 17 losses against him.

Going into our second team today, DWG KIA absolutely showed up today with a vengeance, it didn’t take long for them to punch their way into the playoffs stage, as they won their first game of the day against G2 Esports to secure their place in the event’s quarterfinals.

Similar to DWG KIA, JD Gaming also grabbed their spot in the quarterfinals, meaning that both G2 and Evil Geniuses have been officially eliminated from the playoffs stage at Worlds 2022.

DWG KIA came rather aggressive in all games today, as they constantly pressed their lead by taking turrets and neutral objectives after securing kills throughout the map in the early game. A lot of early game skirmishes went in favor of DWG KIA, mainly because of how good Nuguri played this week. The interesting thing is that his best champion today was a tank in Sejuani, as he grabbed a scoreline of 3/1/5 on the champion.

As for G2 and EG, their Worlds 202 campaign is officially over to the despair of Western fans.

Following this week of matches, Riot Games will prepare their show to highlight the quarterfinal matchups for the 2022 League of Legends World Championship. So keep an eye out for incredible matchups coming after Sunday, October 16th.
